SURPRISING AMSTERDAM  (28 june 2004)

Regular readers of this weblog (a happy few) will know that I do a lot a walking about Amsterdam (with my sweetheart).

If you know Amsterdam, you won't be surprised hearing that I come across some strange situations.

What could be special about this picture?

Is it that people carry their dog in a trailer behind their bike -- or that they deem it necessary to block the whole pavement with this contraption?

The building you see down here used to be eight times as big. The demolition workers did a good job on it.

If you look carefully at the right of the picture, you'll see that water is sprayed. That is done to prevent dust from being blown across the street.

You see: demolition workers can be more constructive than construction workers (click , click and click).

And what would be special about the street shown down here?

It's Amsterdam's Witte de Withstraat. It's nominated for the title of the most boring street of Amsterdam.

A question: when people get money from a money-machine, why would they request the machine to produce a paper that shows the transaction?

Most people just throw it away!

I live close to the Vondelpark . What to think about these sculptures on long poles?

If you ask me, it suggests a rather offensive kind of gesture.

And what to think about this picture taken in the Willemsparkweg? If you understand Dutch, there is just one text you can read here.

But if you don't know any Dutch and are not too sensitive, then don't be shocked: it says whorehouse ...

Today's last picture shows what a lawn looks like when somebody behind a desk appoints the dimensions of a lawn.

Seldom did I see a better visualization of bureaucracy.
