GALE IN AMSTERDAM (21 march 2004)
During the last few days we had a powerful gale blowing here in Amsterdam.
There's something heroic about a windstorm. Very few people venture out into the streets. Those who do cherish the illusion of being amongst the bravest.
There are also pitiful things in the city during the storm: people trying to protect themselves with umbrellas - which are blown to pieces.
The sad remnants are to be found all over the city.
But however heroic storms may be, we are still looking forward to sunnier weather.
