HOURIS (20 december 2003)The other day I read about houris, which I found defined as follows: "the term for a beautiful virgin who awaits the devout Mahommedan in Paradise. The word is the French representative of the Persian huri, Arabian hawra, a black-eyed virgin, from hawira, to be black-eyed, like a gazelle".
Where I live, I see the way in which quite a lot of Muslims treat their wives, who are usually veiled and look as if their only duties are cooking and bearing children. When I read about these houris, I was wondering if a similar fate was awaiting these poor virgins whenever another male muslim went to Paradise. By the way, one might wonder: what's awaiting the devout female Mahommedan at her arrival into Paradise?
