THE CHAOS (17 may 2004)The English language is a bit funny, isn't it? Why, for instance doesn't 'worse' rhyme with 'horse'? Or why is the flower 'anemone' pronounced as 'anem onee' instead of 'any moan' , as you might perhaps expect? The writer Gerard Nolst Trenité was also surprised about these inconsistencies. It prompted him into writing a long rhyme called The Chaos. When I was a student of English, one of the assignments we had to do was find out the pronunciation of all the words in this rhyme.
